The field of clinical psychology is vast and there are many useful ways to engage in therapeutic treatment. Kathryn continues to work clinically at The Clifford Beers Child Guidance Clinic, in New Haven, CT. She runs small group therapies using The Three Wisdom Traditions: Yoga, Ayurveda and Psychology to educate clients to understand how the choices they make in their daily self care, manner of breathing, movement of their body and thinking patterns impact their lives. These small group therapy programs are approx. 6 to 12 sessions long, depending upon the client population. Kathryn will offer an In Service or Training Program for your clinic or workplace on how to work with this group therapy to support your coworkers, clients or patients with these healing methodologies.

Currently Kathryn is not taking psychotherapy clients. She will see new clients for Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy that will involve working with psychiatric issues including anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD and other related mood disorders. She will see couples for problem-focused counseling using yoga, ayurveda and psychology for brief treatment only.

Though modern surgery has become advanced, the Ayurvedic principles of pre and post operative care still have great relevance today. The application of Ayurvedic principles to surgical care can decrease anxiety of the medical procedure and facilitate speedy recovery from surgical interventions. Ayurveda has historically made foundational contributions to holistic patient care both to prepare for surgery and in
recovery from anesthesia. Ayurveda’s ability to both support the physical body and calm the mental body expedites healing and long term integration of the surgical intervention. It is important that the body is in optimum functioning capacity before undergoing surgery for a successful outcome and also that the body is supported to regain its composure and functioning after the surgery. Having a personalized ayurvedic protocol can help the patient to regain normal digestive functions and regularize bowel movements naturally while boosting the bodies natural immunity.

“Sleep is the wet nurse of the World”, is my favorite Dr. Svobodha saying. I often find that folks may have generally good health, but the one issue they feel they need support is around is sleep. The statistics are staggering around how poorly the citizens of the World sleep. There are three major categories for sleep issues: Getting to sleep, Staying asleep and the third type is a combo of both trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep! Ayurveda has several options for sleep support and, as with all ayurvedic concepts, we generally find that addressing digestion, lifestyle and mindful practices, create a useful healing template to support the ability of clients to get to sleep and then to have a good night’s rest.
